Spring 2009
Open up your world...
I have joined the world of the bloggers; is that a sigh or a yell? It depends. It provides an outlet for that newspaper background I have, and it provides a greater understanding for me of the cyber world. My blogs tend to fall into two categories. The first is a technical blog, such as special rules regarding overtime pay, or which rules apply when docking a salaried employee. The other category emphasizes our human characteristics, such as service and the special place we live in. If you’re interested, you may peruse the blog from our website at www.payrolldept.biz.
Survey says...
The results were extremely gratifying, especially the testimonials you submitted. Almost a third of those responding took the time to provide us with at least a couple of sentences about why we make a positive difference in their payroll world. If you indicated that you would like more information on a new service or follow-up on a comment, you should have received a response by now. Congratulations to Haz Said from the Durango Discovery Museum. He won the iPod Nano we gave away in a drawing for those who completed our online survey. Thanks to all of you (more than 150) who took your time to complete our survey.

Please don’t hesitate to provide us feedback at any time. And if you didn’t have a chance to fill out our survey, we would be happy to send you one to complete.
Got Stimulus?
We adjusted our tax tables because of the stimulus plan a week after it was announced. Many of you have expressed concern that your paychecks for your employees are higher now – this is most likely the reason why. We have posted on our website reasons some employees may not want this tax decrease on their paycheck (ESPECIALLY EMPLOYEES WHO ARE MARRIED AND EACH OF THE SPOUSES ARE CLAIMING THE TAX CREDIT). It may cause a tax increase at filing time. See our website for more information on this matter.
Employee Background Screening News
Our Background Screening partner, National Crime Search, has some updated features that they are offering that we have outlined below. If you would like more information about Background Screening, please contact us or visit our website. Choose “Our Services” and “Background Screening.”
NCS Launches Two New Features
- Sex Offender Pictures
- Clear Report Ability
Sex Offender Pictures
Your background search reports will now show pictures of sex offenders. Many jurisdictions are now providing this information, but there are still some pictures that are unavailable. NCS will automatically post all available pictures to your report details to help you determine if a record is a positive match to your applicant.
Clear Report Ability
As you probably know, some jurisdictions across the country do NOT file criminal records by Date of Birth (DOB). This can create some confusion as erroneous records may be displayed (belonging to someone other than your applicant). When you spot a record that does not belong to your subject, you now have the ability to “hide” the erroneous record so you can produce a clear report. Your original data will NOT be lost and you can refresh the page to see the original information. You will see this new feature on your completed report next to the criminal record. You can hide individual records or hide all records to produce a clear report. Make sure you have done the necessary verification of these records.
Less paper...
Last year we went to double-sided reports to conserve paper or just emailed your reports. For many of you this is a great convenience to have the reports online which you can then choose to print what you like or not even print at all. This year, starting with our first quarter, we will be uploading quarterly reports to the web for your convenience. If you would like to be on this list, please let us know.
Thank you for your continued trust. We appreciate your business and your referrals.
Sincerely,
Bryan Dear
